Maternity Africa is a Christian-based not-for-profit organization that provides
fistula treatment and quality maternity care for marginalized women across Tanzania.

Kivulini Maternity Centre, located outside the city of Arusha in Northern Tanzania.

About the Role

This role requires a multiskilled individual who can serve as both a
Vehicle Mechanic and a Driver. The successful candidate
will ensure efficient and safe operation of the hospital’s transportation and fleet maintenance,
while supporting staff, patients, visitors, and outreach activities.

Responsibilities

Mechanics

  • Diagnose and repair vehicles and machinery (e.g., generators, lawn mowers).
  • Estimate repair costs and required spare parts.
  • Work with the Transport Officer to order parts and spares.
  • Identify and propose plans for fleet maintenance and upgrades.
  • Conduct routine inspections and prioritize urgent repairs.
  • Keep accurate records of repairs and maintenance work.
  • Supervise third-party vendor repairs when necessary.
  • Provide preventive maintenance and consultation to vehicle users.

Driver

  • Safely transport staff, patients, visitors, and goods.
  • Ensure all vehicles have valid papers and required safety equipment.
  • Complete vehicle checks before each duty and report defects.
  • Maintain mileage, fuel, and maintenance reports as per policy.
  • Keep vehicles clean and in sanitary condition.
  • Ensure patient safety and comfort while driving.
  • Adhere to traffic laws, organizational SOPs, and safety procedures.

Qualifications

  • Form IV/Secondary certificate.
  • At least 6 months professional driving training (NIT).
  • Vehicle mechanics training certificate.
  • 3+ years’ experience as a professional driver.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in vehicle maintenance.

Skills & Competencies

  • Valid driver’s license with a clean record.
  • Strong knowledge of vehicle mechanics and repairs.
  • Familiarity with Tanzanian traffic and safety regulations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and make quick decisions.
  • Good physical condition to handle job demands.
  • Punctual, reliable, and dependable.
